CHAPTER 2: Background Informations
To the contrary of Bloodlines and Clan, the members of the Knights of Hecate do not consider themselves as members of the same Bloodlines, and have no common sires. But to the contrary of Sects, the Knights of Hecate have indeed something in common: By using a Akhu Ritual, Hecate effectively make them her faithful ands powerful servants.
Description & Philosophy:
The Knights or Hecate were all promising Childer of weak Generation. Most of them were either ambitious or disgusted by their Elders. Each of them was given the choice. Most of them accepted to join Hecate.
This involved a nightlong ritual to enhance the power of the new convert: A Diablerie. A victim was chosen, and after being drained of all his Vitae, the subject would diablerize a newly-created Childe of Meryt-Neith, full with sekhem-enhanced Vitae.
This, of course, involved a price. Hecate, not trusting the Blood Bond, uses before the Diablerie an Akhu ritual to remove and keep the heart of her new retainer (similar to Serpentis *****).
Thus, Their power was augmented, but in the same time, threatening Hecate would mean risking their own death by her hand.
Then, the subject would be considered a Knight of Hecate. But they found with great surprise that Hecate usually did ask nothing from them, and years later, a lot still wondered what did she win in the bargain...
Then, most will realize they will have, one night, to travel to the other side of the world to help the woman who gave them power. But until them, they continue their unlife.
Thus, despite a kind of empathic bond (perhaps coming from the Blood), they are all different, with different philosophy. They can even be sect enemies. But they were (at least at first), Blood Bond to Meryt-Neith, and they will (at least once) be called by her to join her in her fight.
Nickname:
Few know the full extant of the Sect, and almost all believe it to be a kind of small cult, no suspecting the true ties of being a heartless and thus faithful servant.
Powers & Influence:
Half the members have no interesting influence. Still, a few among them succeeded in wrestling seats of power in their respective sect, be it as a Templar in the sabbat, as a Camarilla Primogen, etc..
Half among them are older than 500 years. These are powerful Kindred indeed.
Known Members:
Alexis; 7th Generation Toreador;Camarilla Master of the Veilleurs.
Chad; 6th Generation Gangrel; Camarilla Kindred.
Delphine; 7th Generation True Brujah; Camarilla Elder.
Juan; 7th Generation Gangrel; Camarilla Kindred.
Paercebal; 6th Generation True Brujah; Anarch Warlord.
Ron Stewart; 7th Generation Brujah; Camarilla Kindred.
Havens:
Almost every kind of haven...
Background:
Almost every background. Still, Almost all of them were ambitious vampires who saw their ambition limited by their Generation.
Character Creation:
As any other vampire. But most of them will have a greater Generation because of the Ritual (see the LdA's Diablerie Rules for more information), and all have no hearts anymore, thus acquiring the (setite) 4-points flaw: Heartless.
Disciplines:
As this is no Bloodline, there is no Bloodline Discipline. But the more lawful servants are taught some Akhu Paths or Ritual. Note that most members won't be taught these powers and so won't have any rating in it.
Weaknesses:
All the members of the Sect have the flaw Heartless. They all believe that should they try to destroy of betray Hecate (no matter their success of failure), their heart will be destroyed.
Organisation:
Most of them don't know the internal organisation of the Bloodline.
Prefered Path:
The Road of Chivalry (See Vampire: The Dark Ages, p114 and p133) is available to every member. Hecate feels it is important to have lawful member before having to insure their loyalty (or neutralization) via the destruction of their heart.
Others keep their own Path or Road. Note that new members are carefully studied before approaching them. Any hint of infernalism or superior loyalty will negate any chance. The Path of Evil Revelations (or any Typhon's Path) are unknown in the Bloodline (anyone caught with these Paths would be immediately destroyed).
Quote:
''Clan Loyalty, yes, I know that...''
This ''Akhu'' was created by Hecate three thousand years before the birth of the Christ (see the Chronicle: Uræus, Gods of Egypt). Meryt Neith was a Mage of no few powers, interested by Necromancy but with a poor health, before she was Embraced. She lost her mastery over Reality (Known to Egyptians as Ra-Hekau), and she tried to master more mundane Hekau praticed by some priests and court magicians. Combining it with the power of her Blood, seh created the Senef Hekau, or Blood Hekau, which became the Akhu.
As most members of the Bloodline are warriors, they are unable to create new Hekau Rituals, and must rely to Meryt Neith's generosity to have any teaching in Hekau. Few know it, anyway, and fewer have access to it.
