Hat-Maat
The Temple of Maat

The first of the Childer of Set, the Hat-Maat's founder, Khentamentiu, was chosen by Osiris himself. Khentamentiu was a philosopher, who helped Osiris ruling the Two-Lands, and his wisdon, willpower and intelligence made him the right candidate for the Founder of the Hat-Maat Bloodline, whose mission would lead him to create the Maat Discipline. The Hat-Maat's numbers will never be high, and most among them won't even take a divine identity, prefering to study Maat and its powers. Still, members of other Bloodlines will sometimes join them, with the benediction of the others Founders. When Set's corruption will be suspected, part of the Hat-Maat will change loyalties and will turn to the simili-underground sect the Ousire-Misahu, the Childer of Osiris. They will then flee Egypt to take over the Tibet, and become what is known today as the Children of Osiris, Maat becoming Bardo.
Appearance:
Of all the Childer of Set, the Hat-Maat are the more ascetic: If possible, every possible candidate is completely shaved, as any body hair is to be considered impure, just before their Embrace. Thus they will remain pure for eternity.
They tend to wear priestly garb, neglectiing gold and other riches unless as a symbol of divinity (Gold and Silver are considered the flesh and bone of Gods).
Haven:
As most of them are priests and/or sages, they live near or even within temples. They are sometimes the concillors of other gods, even if the Hekau-Nebet tend to ignore them.
The more ascetic live alone, in a lost tomb or pyramid, with enough Sekhem supply to remain active, to find the way to Maat without being distracted by day-to-day events.
Background:
Most Hat-Maat were philosophers in life, or scribes, judges or even working in administration. But every candidate must zealously follow Maat, and have worked actively to remove corruption from the Two-Lands. In times where the Cult of Isis created Mummies from almost everyone, the Hat-Maat remained pure in their choices, and most would have been excellent candidates for the Rite of Rebirth.
Almost one quarter the Hat-Maat are women, as the Hat-Maat tend to recruit among the administration, but most are recruited from male priesthood. There isn't, though, any seggregation.
Character Creation:
Mental Attributes, as well as knowledges, are primary. The candidates are known for their moral integrity and for their will. Thus, characters must have at least 4 in every Virtue, 8 in Humanity and 6 in Willpower.
Disciplines:
Maat, Obfuscate and Presence. Most among them have at least one Path of Senef Hekau.
Weaknesses:
Like the other Childer of Set, the Hat-Maat suffer from a eerie aura (see Flaw: Eerie Presence) that add 2 to the difficulty to any positive social roll.
Organisation:
There is three organisations within the Bloodline. The first is composed by the Priests of Osiris, centered in the Temple of Osiris, in the city of Busiris (Lower Egypt). The second is formed by the philosophers and councillors, either of mortals (like the Tjaty (Vizier), judges or scribes), or immortals (like priests of other gods, etc.) Unlike the Priesthood of Osiris, there is no rank in this organization. The third is even less organized, and is composed with the Hat-Maat who live isolated, in the desert, feeding from the little Sekhem they can harvest, and meditating.
Stereotypes:
Bal-Noure: Our protectors. Unlike the Sof-Sen, they tend to act more with their brain than their brawn.
Bast-Hemet: We can't fully trust them, as they are as volatile as their Bubastis counterparts. Still, their vision are true.
Hekau-Nebet: Ambitious magicians. What we seek in philosophy, they seek in the power of magic. But I fear they will only find corruption, instead of peace.
Meryt-Pneter: I still wonder why Set Embraced Hathor. While she is beautiful, beauty is only skin deep. They revel in earthyly pleasures. Hathor seems to ignore our quest for Maat, and I wonder about the object of her meditation...
Ouro-Sen: Warriors who pledged their unlife to the Two-Lands. I respect them for they respect us, and each of us has its own place under Maat.
Khui-Amon: Montu and Amon are lawful followers of Maat. But their mastery of Darkness, and the ambition of their Founder is enough to stop me from trusting them too much.
Anoup: Followers of the way of Anubis, I trust them because they follow the truth, and so Maat. Their war against Apep and their tolerance to our condition makes them welcome allies.
Msoh-Sobek: Their civilization is older than everything we know. Their rituals are primitive, but there must be a good reason...
Nerhib Pehrt: To chaotic, to addicted to mortal pleasures, and probably too easy to corrupt.
Hon-Aton: Their Quest for the One is blasphemous. Their research is biased from the beginning. They would learn more by talking with the Anoup.
Isis-Tiaou: Like the Hekau-Nebet, this is a sect of magicians. But these ones are mortals. While the Hekau-Nebet are clearly working for Set, the Isis-Tiaou clearly side with Horus. I fear the begining of the war between Set and Horus start between these two...
Shemsu-Heru: Their creation is as much blasphemous to Maat than our own. Still, horus continues his little propaganda. I fear, because of their selective and slowly erasing memory, than one day, Horus will truely believe what he says...
Destiny:
Of all the Childer of Set, The Hat-Maat will be the Bloodline with the greatest number of surviving members. Their numbers will grow even more when they will accept the members of the other decimated Bloodlines within their ranks.
Becoming the Ousire-Misahu, the Children of Osiris, they will start and exodus in the Ramesside years and will settle in Tibet, stop Embracing Childer, and only recruit among high-humanity Vampires. With Horus as tentative ally, they will fight the Setite with precise success...
Quote:
Maat is the answer to your problem...
Ways of the Hat-Maat:
Strenght and Influence:
The Hat-Maat is a peaceful Bloodline, and will only use force when everything else was tried and has failed.
They have great influence, as they are the spiritual guides of mortals and immortal alike.
Organization and Priesthood:
There is three organizations within the Bloodline, and the Priesthood of Osiris only follows the first.
The first includes the immortal members of the Priesthood, with Khentamentiu being the leader. He will even go as far as impersonating Osiris in ceremonies after the Old Kingdom Era, as the other Gods have a tangible presence. The second is composed by judges and scribes, who help the mortals and immortals alike in their choices, to keep them in the way of Maat. The third are philosophers living alone in the desert, and only come back to civilzation to discuss new findings in the way of Maat.
Current Pratices:
The Hat-Maat gather on the two Tendays before the rising of the Nile, to discuss philosophy, and to share new insights in the way of Maat. Most of them appear, while it is not unknow to some philosophers to forget this exact moment, so lost they are in their research.
Present Concern:
The Hat-Maat greatest concern is the hatred between Set and Horus, which threaten Maat and the Two-Lands. Under the guidance of Osiris, they act to stop any crisis to become too much important.
They are wondering, too, if they shouldn't create a fourth Sub-Clan whose mission would be to search and find corrupted egyptians or strangers, mortals and immortals alike: Apep's influence never stops, and they fear this apparent peace is only hiding something very very dark...
