Hekau-Nebet
The Mistresses of Magic

This is the fifth Bloodline to be created. The Cult of Isis was attracting followers, and Set needed to have access to magic. He chose a young princess named Meryt-Neith who was entombed alived by the evil vizier of her deceased father. Meryt-Neith was a magician who had just awakened to Ra-Hekau. But after the embrace, she lost her power over reality. While Set was disappointed at first, Meryt-Neith soon succeeded in casting minor Hekau Rituals, and after centuries, calling herself Sechat, she became the first true Hekau-Nebet.
Her Bloodline grew in numbers, but never reached the numbers of the other Bloodlines. They mastered the Senef Hekau (Blood Magic). While they never were considered really worthy by the other Bloodlines, the Hekau-Nebet demonstrated their magickal power around 1500 BC, when they used mighty rituals to destroy the minoean civilization and entombed the Baali Shaitan under tons of molten lava. This act alone contributed to give Egypt its fame about magic.
Appearance:
The Hekau-Nebet are selected among mortals who have supernatural powers (Numina, Hekau Magic, Ra-Hekau, etc.). As this is the only pre-requisite, the Bloodline is well balanced between males and females.
The Hekau-Nebet dress like priests, most of the time with the leopard skin and the staff indicating their station. Note that most of the time, the staff is magickal in some way...
Haven:
Most Hekau-Nebet are loners by nature. They rarely venture outside their temples or their pyramids. Despite the fact that no one really knows who was Thot, the Hekau-Nebet took over its priesthood, so they can be found within temples of Thot.
Background:
Unless exception, the Hekau-Nebet are educated people, being scribes or priests in their life. They had all at least one Numina, or the possibility to work Hekau, be it normal Hekau or Ra-Hekau (True Magick).
Character Creation:
Mental Attributes, as well as Knowledges, are normally primary.
Disciplines:
Obfuscate, Presence, Senef-Hekau.
Weaknesses:
Like the other Childer of Set, the Hekau-Nebet tend to have an eerie presence that increase the difficulty to Social Rolls by 2.
Organisation:
There is two type of Hekau-Nebet. The Priests and the
Magicians.
The Priests spend their unlife within the walls of a temple,
with a staff of faithful followers to help them. They are normally
priests of Thot, but some are known to be scribes or councillors
within the court of Pharao, or even within other priesthood or
administration staff. Some work as librarians or historians. They
are 80% of the Bloodline
The Magicians somehow isolated themselves within pyramids, feeding
from Sekhem only, and researching new Hekau Rituals. They are
20% of the Bloodline
Each year, they meet in the Pyramid of Sechat, sharing new knowledge and magic, and discussing whatever pleases them.
The Prestige is function of the personnal magickal talent and knowledge, as well as the magickal creations or new discoveries shared at the yearly meeting within the Pyramid of Sechat.
Stereotypes:
Bal-Noure: They do their work, and still keep their intelligence, to the contrary of their twin Bloodline.
Bast-Hemet: Their mission is to be the link between the Childer of Set and the Bubastis. And they do it well... But they do nothing more.
Hat-Maat: The philosophers are the morale guides of our Bloodlines. But they should forget their apparent contempt for the other Bloodlines: Despite their tries, their power over the Beast limited, while our power over Reality increases with the centuries.
Meryt-Pneter: They have their uses, but in truth they are not necessary but for appearances.
Ouro-Sen: Lawful deadly warriors who understand little but brute force. They wouldn't recognize an half-lie from the truth. it's not surprising they don't trust us...
Khui-Amon: While Montou sweared allegiance to Set and Egypt, their ways remains too much secret for the good of the Two-Lands. We are spending our time searching for new magic to server Set. What are they doing of their own?
Anoup: Monsters with a noble heart but with quick anger. They don't like us, but they have still to act against us. Set should have embraced one of them instead of a Bubastis.
Msoh-Sobek: Potential nest for treason. The people of Sobek will never be our allies, despite their claims.
Nerhib Pehrt: They have some talent in Hekau, but lack the will to become as powerful as their lupine cousins.
Hon-Aton: Dangerous Mages...
Isis-Tiaou: We have much in common. We should work harder to make them accept us and forget their misplaced anger. It's true Set asked us to create our own Spell of Rebirth.
Shemsu-Heru: Despite their claims, their mastery of Hekau is pitiful. The only thing that makes them special is their immortality, but they are the the casters of the Spell of Rebirth, only the vessels...
Clan: What we think of this Clan?
Destiny:
The isolation of the magicians will make them easy victims to the Purge. The Priest won't fare better, as they will be the first victims of the Purge, and thus, be totally surprised.
Still, while Set will be told Sechat had been destroyed, she will survive and flee to Cappadocia, where she will change identity and become Hecate, the greek Godess of Magic. Her Temple will be open until the fifth century after the Christ.
A part of the mortal priesthood of Sechat will survive too. The True Mages will survive the Setite, christian and muslim oppression, and will become House Shaea of the Hermetic Tradition.
Quote:
Hekau means power... Power we're working hard to control. Did I told you about the Ritual that can make rocks fall from the skies? no, not that rocks... Rocks of the size of the Nile Delta, I mean...
Ways of the Hekau-Nebet:
Strenght and Influence:
While the Hekau-Nebet wield little political or military power, all of them are accomplished magicians. Whenever there is a temple to be build, whenever a pyramid, tomb or obelisk needs an enchantment, the Hekau-Nebet are called. Every other Vampire (or other supernatural or magician) needs the mighty spells of the Senef Hekau to create Enchanted Obelisks attracting Sekhem and Enchanted Pyramids to concentrate the Sekhem thus harvested in its inner chambers, thus feeding the God with magickal power.
In exchange to their magic, the Hekau-Nebet have some privileges, being scribes within other's temples being one of them. While they masquerade as priests of Thot, or even minor or major gods, they are content to remain in the shadows of the other gods, as it gives them the time to research other Magickal Rituals.
Organization and Priesthood:
The Magicians are happy to spend their unlives alone of with a
limited staff of retainers, buried in their pyramids, researching
for new Magic. They are appart from any organization.
The Priests spend their unlives in Temples or at the Royal Palace, be it as scribes, mages or priests, masquerading as powerful mortals, or demi-gods, or sometimes as Gods of lesser stature. The Founder of the Bloodline, Meryt-Neith, changed took a new identity and became Sechat, godess of hieroglyphs, magic, magical architecture and history, and wife of Thot. The others sometimes live under the same identity (it is a common pratice: There was at least 4 Horus, depending on the time of the day, etc. The same can be said about Hathor, and most other gods), living as consorts to other gods.
Current Pratices:
The Hekau-Nebet are a secretive Bloodline. While they respect Set and Osiris, they are highly fascinated by the Moon (symbol of thot, god of magic, but also of Iah, God of War). As they created the Egyptian calendar, they know a lot about astronomical events. Each full moon, the Hekau-Nebet of the same region meet to discuss events and magic. And each each years, they all meet at the Pyramid of Sechat to share their knowledge.
Present Concern:
The Hekau-Nebet feel relatively unconcerned by what happens in the Two-Lands. They like to believe their only aim is to learn more and more about Magic. So they try to avoid being meddled to internal affairs, even if they never avoid helping Egypt when it comes to external influence (like wars).
